The Government is aware about the cybercrime / phone frauds originating from certain
parts of the country. No information is available about any active collusion of certain sections of the local police in such activities.

The security and intelligence agencies monitor the cyber space and whenever they notice any objectionable online content relating to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence, necessary action is taken for the blocking of such online content as per the provisions of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Data Security Council of India (DSCI) setup by NASSCOM, to promote data
protection, develop security and privacy codes and standards and encourage the IT/BPO industry to implement the same, has indicated that attacks such as wannacry and Petya are indeed a reinforcement of the fact that the Cyber Security fraternity needs to augment its competencies to not only defend but anticipate the threats while safeguarding their critical infrastructure.

Increase in cases of cyber crimes ( 8 February 2017 )

As per NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) records 5693, 9622, 11592 Cyber crime
offences such as tampering, hacking, obscene publication, forgery, counterfeiting, infringement of copy-rights etc. were registered during the year 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Increase in cyber crimes ( 11 August 2017 )

With the proliferation of Information Technology and related services, there is a rise in
instances of cyber crimes in the country like elsewhere in the world. As per the data maintained by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 4356, 7201, 9622, 11592 and 12317 cyber crime cases were registered during the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Government is aware that Internet has become a source of terrorist propaganda and
recruitment. The Security/Intelligence agencies regularly monitor the popular social media sites and websites and take necessary action in case of they find any classified material or provocative material or anti-national or terror related material hosted / circulated on such sites.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has created a dedicated email (complaintmwcd@gov.in) solely to address and resolve the issues of hateful conduct and stalking on social media platforms w.e.f. July, 2016. So far, 69 complaints have been received.

There are no inputs available to suggest a turf war between Al-Qaeda and Daesh (ISIS)
in India. However, in order to counter terror activities, there exists a close and effective
