Border Haats Indo-Bangla Border (15 March 2017)
Revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Mode of Operation (MoO) between India and Bangladesh for establishing Border Haats on India-Bangladesh Border. The Border Haats aim at promoting the well-being of the people dwelling in remote areas across the borders of two countries, by promoting traditional system of marketing the local produce through local markets.

Construction of roads and flood lights along Indo-Bangladesh border (02 August 2017)
The budget allocation is Rs. 50 Crore each for floodlight work and road work along Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) for the financial year 2017-18. During 2017-18, an expenditure of Rs. 7.97 Crore for border roads and Rs. 6.06 Crore for border floodlight have been incurred by construction agencies along IBB.

Deadline for Border Sealing (14 March 2017)

The Government has adopted multi-pronged approach for security arrangements at the IndoPakistan Border (IPB). The arrangements include deployment of Border Security Force (BSF), construction of border fence, construction of border roads, installation of floodlights, construction of Border Out Posts (BOPs), introduction of Hi-Tech surveillance equipments, providing weapons and Specialised Vehicles to Security Forces, etc.

With a view to improve the pace of execution of infrastructure projects in the border areas, Government has approved a policy to enable BRO to outsource identified projects to other construction companies, including those in the private sector.

Infrastructure Development in Border Areas (28 July 2017)

Government keeps a constant watch on all developments having a bearing on India’s security and takes all necessary measures to safeguard it. 73 Indo-China Border Roads along Northern Borders are approved for construction. Out of this 27 roads have been completed and balance roads are planned for completion by December 2022.

Kolkata- Khulna-Dhaka bus service flagged off from Kolkata today (08 April 2017)
A Kolkata-Khulna-Dhaka bus service was ceremoniously flagged off from Kolkata. This is a part of several initiatives being taken to strengthen bilateral relations and provide better road and rail connectivity for citizens of both the countries. Senior Ministers and high level officials from the Government of West Bengal and visiting delegates from Bangladesh participated in the flagging off ceremony held at Kolkata.

Ministry of Defence approves delegation of Powers to Border Roads Organisation (20 August 2017)
The Ministry of Defence has decided to delegate administrative and financial powers to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) right upto the level of Chief Engineer and Task Force Commander, so as to avoid delays on account of references between the Chief Engineer and HQ DGBR and also between HQ DGBR and the Ministry.

24×7 operationalization of Petrapole-Benapole Integrated Check Post (31 July 2017 )
In order to facilitate movement of cargo across the border, India and Bangladesh have agreed to operate Petrapole-Benapole ICP 24×7, with effect from 01st August 2017.

Overstay of Foreigners (08 August 2017)
Law enforcing agencies maintain a vigil to intercept the foreigners overstaying in India. FRROs under Bureau of Immigration are instructed to conduct special drives for identification of overstaying foreigners in their jurisdiction and initiate necessary action for deportation.

Refugee Status for Bangladeshi immigrants (01 August 2017)
Government has not issued any direction to the State Government of Assam for granting refugee status to illegal Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants.

The arrangements include deployment of Border Guarding Force (BGF), construction of border fence, construction of border roads, installation of floodlights, construction of Border Out Posts (BOPs), introduction of Hi-tech surveillance equipments, providing advanced weapons and Specialized Vehicles to Security Forces, action based on intelligence inputs.
