Cases filed under Sedition Act (19 July 2017)

As per the information received from National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) a total number of 58 persons were arrested in 47 cases registered in the year 2014, 73 persons arrested in 30 cases registered in the year 2015 and 34 persons arrested in 28 cases (data of State of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal not received) registered in the year 2016 (under the offence of Sedition (Section 124A of IPC).

Cases investigated by NIA (26 July 2017)

The Central Government has entrusted 163 cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation till date, in accordance with Section 6 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008.

A statement indicating State-wise details of the number of cases of alleged violation of human rights registered by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) during the last three years (2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17) is at Annexure-I.
