China’s insurance sector reports adequate solvency: Xinhuanet

China’s insurance sector maintained steady operation and adequate solvency in the first three quarters of this year, the country’s banking and insurance regulator said. The average comprehensive solvency ratio of the 181 insurers reviewed at a regulatory meeting was 212 percent by the end of September, and their average core solvency ratio was 139.7 percent, said the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission.

Former Guangdong police chief under investigation for corruption: South China Morning Post

Guangdong’s former police chief is the latest senior official to be placed under investigation for corruption, amid a far-reaching campaign targeting China’s security apparatus. Li Chunsheng – former deputy governor and director of the Public Security Department in the southern province – “turned himself in” to authorities, the Communist Party’s anti-graft watchdog said in a statement on Thursday. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said the 61-year-old was “suspected of serious violations of discipline and law” – a euphemism for corruption.

The top decision-making body of China’s Communist Party has vowed to crack down on what it called excessive measures taken by local governments to implement national policies. It did not directly mention Covid-19 controls, but comes as Beijing has started easing restrictions and as the party’s discipline watchdogs go after authorities at the local level for taking the measures too far. Meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, the 24-member Politburo – led by President Xi Jinping – called for a continued tough stance on corruption, state news agency Xinhua reported on Wednesday.

The appointment was announced on Thursday by state news agency Xinhua, seven weeks after the 20th Party Congress, a landmark edition of the five-yearly conclave which saw President Xi Jinping secure a groundbreaking third term and reveal a top leadership stacked with loyalists.

Li Hongzhong no longer concurrently serves as secretary, standing committee member and member of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee. Chen concurrently serves as member, standing committee member and secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.
